Hi Everyone,
The South Arkansas Writers met at 2 PM on Sunday, 28 September 2025, at Main Street Pizza in El Dorado. Present were Jack and Janet Ryan, Marilyn Joyner, Rick Vosper, Desireé Stipp-Bethune, and Simeon Stipp-Bethune.
Our next meeting will be at 2PM on 19 October 2025. Notice that this will be the THIRD Sunday (we’re back to a normal schedule) at Main Street Pizza.
News:
1) Rick Vosper has a bone “floating” in his foot which is causing him some problems. Jean, however, is doing better. Rick is waiting to hear back from some of the agents he’s queried about his novel.
2) Amazon has finally published Beverley Bethune and Desireé Stipp-Bethune’s book, “Kansas for the Skeptical Adventurer: A Mother and Daughter's Travels and Guide Through the Sunflower State”. A local Kansas TV station will be interviewing them about the book. A copy of the map in the book was shown at the recent SAAC arts show.
3) Desireé has also just returned from a trip to New York state. She also has a new job at SAU-Magnolia with one of the university’s VPs.
4) Poetry Day for the Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas (https://poetsroundtableofarkansas.org/), will be 18 October. Check their web page for registration information.
Writing from Prompts:
1) Desireé read her stories, “I Loved Paul (Steve)” and “Coming to an End.”
2) Marilyn read her story, “Just a Little Short.”
3) Janet displayed the stamp page for her Chinese stamps of Bamboo and read a cinquain poem that accompanies her text.
Prompts for our October meeting include: 1) ”Why are you eating my apple?”, 2) “Thank you for a generous donation of 76-cents.”, 3) “Halloween”, 4) “My least favorite cousin’s birthday” and 5) (as always)... “Anything You Want”.
See you in October. Stay Safe.
