Hi Everyone,
The South Arkansas Writers met at 2 PM on Sunday, 14 December 2025, at Main Street Pizza in El Dorado. Present were Jack and Janet Ryan, Marilyn Joyner, Rick Vosper, and DesireƩ Stipp-Bethune.
Our next meeting will be at 2 PM on 18 January 2026. This will be the third Sunday of January.
News:
1) Marilyn received a Third Honorable Mention for her poetry in the Poets Roundtable of Arkansas’ November contest.
2) Simeon graduated this month with a Certificate of General Studies and will graduate this spring with his Associate Degree from South Arkansas College.
Writing from Prompts:
1) Marilyn read her story, “A Dynamic Christmas.”
1) DesireĆ© read two stories, “An Unusual Christmas” and “A Really Bad Habit.”
3) Janet read her US stamp page honoring lace
Prompts:
We critiqued Rick’s Chapters 1 and 2 from his Novel #2, and Jack’s Chapters 14 and 15, “A Friend in Need” and “In the Hole of the Mountain King” from his novel “The Centaurian Bud Vase.” We had some interesting discussions and good suggestions. One discussion was about “all right” vs. “alright.” Marilyn pointed out that Google’s AI said that both have the same meaning today, but “all right” is normally used in more “formal” writing while “alright” has come to be used in less formal writing like speech and fiction.
If anyone has something to be critiqued, a news item, another prompt for our next meeting, or would like to present a short “program” on something that you think would be of interest to us all, you can email me at jackwryan@gmail.com
Have a great holiday and a Happy New Year. See you in January. Stay Safe. Page updated: 15 December 2025
