Our Last Meeting

Hi Everyone,

The South Arkansas Writers met at 2 PM on Sunday, 19 April 2026, at Main Street Pizza in El Dorado. Present were Jack and Janet Ryan, Marilyn Joyner, Rick Vosper, Simeon Stipp-Bethune, and Desireé Stipp-Bethune.

Our next meeting will be at 2PM on 17 May 2026.

News:
1) Simeon’s artwork will be on display at the Mahony Family Library at South Arkansas College as part of the Arts in April celebration.
2) Simeon is about to graduate from South Arkansas College with an Associate degree.
3) Rick has returned from Las Vegas where he gave a talk in March, “The Power Struggle: Supplier/Retailer Relationships” for the National Bicycle Dealers Association Retailer Summit West.

We had one of the waitresses take a photo of the group to be sent to Desireé’s mother/writing partner, Beverley Bethune.

Writing from Prompts:
1) Desireé read her story, “My Cocoon.”
2) Janet read from her stamp pages honoring bridges in the Faroe Islands and an Ekphrastic poem, “Dancing the World Away.”

Prompts for our May meeting include: 1) Eyes in the dark, 2) Wet Rocks, 3) The world’s second oldest profession, and 4) (as always)... “Anything You Want.”P

We critiqued Rick’s Chapter 4 from his novel “Crooked Ponies,” and Jack’s Chapter 22 from his novel “The Centaurian Bud Vase.” We had some interesting discussions and a lot of good suggestions.

If anyone has something to be critiqued, a news item, another prompt for our next meeting, or would like to present a short “program” on something that you think would be of interest to us all, you can email me at jackwryan@gmail.com

See you in May. Stay Safe.
